I do so many little things on a day to day basis, to try to save every little penny that I can, or to earn any little penny that I can. I have to, or else we run out of money by month’s end. Some people don’t have to, but they’d like to be able to give more to needy people (this is what we plan to do when we’re finally financially free). But until then, here’s one simple way that I save money, and you can do it too!

Do you have a “junk email” account?
I do!  And it saves me money.  This is why:

If you don’t have a “junk email” account, consider getting one.  Setting up a separate email account – one that you will check maybe once per week, will help you when you sign up for all those freebies that you see on facebook and on freebie websites.  Those freebies are great, but you’ll end up on a TON of email lists by signing up for them!  A junk email account can save your sanity while you get free stuff, and in effect, save money.

Sign up for all your freebies, etc. (like the ones I tell you about on facebook, for instance) using that email account.  If you haven’t figured it out already, you should be aware that signing up for freebies almost always puts your email address on an email distribution list.  If you don’t want to be bothered with all those solicitations from that company, just use your “junk email” address when signing up.

It’s handy.  If you never care to read emails from the companies you sign up for freebies from, you never have to bother with them again.  They’ll be delivered to your junk email address and you don’t have to worry about it.  Or, you can just check your junk email inbox once a week or so, read the ones you’re interested in, and delete the ones you’re not, all at once.  It takes only a few minutes, when it would be a huge hassle if you got them daily in your inbox along with your messages that you really do want to read on a regular basis.

But the best reason to have a junk email account is this:  You know for sure that you won’t begin receiving emails from other companies just because someone sold your email address to someone else.  If your junk email address is shared with other companies, you won’t care, because it will just go to an email address you never actually read anyway.

Also be aware that most freebies require that you confirm your email address before you receive them, so if it’s a freebie you really want to grab, then I recommend going immediately to check your “junk email” after you’ve signed up for it.
