Mary and Martha: A Preschool Character Lesson on Hospitality

Description

Teach a beautiful lesson on hospitality to your little ones through the story of Mary and Martha! This engaging lesson teaches children the importance of hospitality through a fun game that they are sure to love! An additional activity provides kids with an opportunity to practice their handwriting, while tying in the importance of being hospitable.

Mary & Martha are Lazarus’ sisters and had the chance to host Jesus in their house. Martha is busy preparing a meal for the men while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet and listens to his stories. Martha gets upset that Mary isn’t helping and asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her. Jesus teaches Martha a very important lesson that day.

Read Luke 10:38-42 to your child and talk about this situation. Spend a few minutes with your child, age 3-7, talking about hospitality and spending time with God.

How to Use:

1. Read the Bible story aloud and explain to your child what it means to you and how it relates to Mary and Martha being hospitable.
2. Read and talk about the character trait on the poster. Share other examples that relate to your child. You can hang the poster for future reference.
3. Play the game together.
4. Have your child write and draw how he/she can be hospitable to guests. If he/she can’t write, you can write his/her sentence in a yellow marker and he/she can trace it.
